How is food industry production going on during COVID-19?
Food industry production is not affected in the same way as the other manufacturing industries during the pandemic. Even though safety and hygiene were of concern even prior to the spread of the virus, stricter measures are taken to ensure follow up on the safety precautions like use of sanitiser for hand sanitation, checking body temperatures before and after entering the facility. Chilling area for meat and seafood product storage inside the food facilities can, however, pose a threat for the spread of Covid-19.
Governments across the world have made maximum restrictions in the transportation of goods via land, water and air as well as in the migration of labour. The one positive aspect is that since the food is an essential commodity. The continual supply of food is a must. And for the same reason, the raw food material transport is not hindered whether it is from within the state or outside the state in India. The transportation is, of course, after crossing a lot of hurdles of security checks at the inter-state borders. Globally though, there is a doubt that remains with the consumers concerning the safety of allowing food not made at home.
